Johanüs has studied martial arts since 1980, emphasizing European styles and practise. With the belief that swordsmanship must be made available as a complete art, he has worked with a variety of practitioners from around the globe, including (but not limited to) Bob Charron (USA), John Clements (USA), Hank Reinhart (USA), Craig Gemeiner (Australia), John Waller (Great Britain), Paul MacDonald (Scotland), and Jeff deBoer (Canada). He has achieved Provost ranking in long sword, short sword and Ringen, Savant with axe and dagger, is a Initiate of rapier, staves, poll-axe, thrown axe and archery. He is also an AES Senior Scholar working on a book on European Swordsmanship. After studying abroad, he now teaches for AES Edmonton College and AES UofA Campus College on a regular basis, as well as through Metro Community College.

      Dana is an enthusiastic member who is a Savant of short sword and buckler, and hand-to-hand combat, and an Initiate of long sword, and Halben Stangen (Half Staff). He is an AES Scholar and is currently completing his Senior Scholar ranking with both video and written components and a co-published article on short sword and buckler techniques with Johanus.

    • Bruce Eames

      Bruce began European Swordsmanship in 2000, and is the first international member. He practises longsword and Renaissance cut & thrust in Houston, Texas, where he has also worked with the HACA.
